Super Bowl XLIX - that's number 49 to those of you who are Roman numeral impaired - will be held on February 1st in the University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Considering the contestants, it seems likely that this year's contest will be more than the average game... and, if you know the history of this game, that's really saying something.
In the 1960s, there was fierce competition for players - and for fans! - between the "old guard" National Football League and the upstart American Football League. This competition placed a significant financial strain on all the parties involved. Finally, in 1969, a merger of the two leagues was orchestrated whereby each league would still remain independent as a separate conference while playing under the auspices for the NFL. Also agreed... at the end of the season, the conference champs would meet in a game that was ultimately dubbed the "Super Bowl."
The NFC's Seattle Seahawks return as defending champions - the first time since their opponents, the Pats, did it in 2004 and 2005 - and Russell Wilson and the boys are looking to equal their opponent's feat of winning both. With running back, Marshawn Lynch, cornerback Richard Sherman, placekicker Steven Hauschka and the rest, the Seahawks are indeed poised to make franchise history.
The New England Patriots also bring a lot of history to this ultimate football confrontation in the 2015 Super Bowl stadium. Quarterback Tom Brady, as well as the Pat's inestimable head coach Bill Belichick, will each be returning for an unprecedented sixth Super Bowl together. Count 'em! Six! The rest of the "Brady Bunch" are no slouches either. In particular, tight end Rob Gronkowski, wide receiver, Julian Edelman and kicker, Stephen Gostkowski will undoubtedly make significant contributions.
The beautiful, 2015 Super Bowl Stadium at the University of Phoenix is truly a prime venue for this event. In addition to its 78,000 person capacity, it also features one of the finest real sod grass fields in the country. The sod grass is provided by our team here at Evergreen Turf. As a premier provider of sod in Arizona, Evergreen Turf is dedicated to making sure the field is ready to go on game day. Great care is taken in selecting, cultivating and maintaining the particular variety of sod that is used in this unique and prestigious venue.
While the fans will surely appreciate its aesthetic qualities, the players will love its resilience even more as it cushions the blows of intended tackles and just falling down. Simply put, the care that has gone into the installation and maintenance of this field will allow every player to give his utmost without fear of a devastating injury.
The Seahawk's defense is widely touted as this year's best although the stats only place them sixth. Still, they are in the Super Bowl while the Carolina Panthers - the number one defense team - only gets to watch on TV. The Patriots have the number one offense by wide acclamation and by the stats. Expect them to come out roaring and Brady throwing... to Edelman, perhaps?
The Seahawks, on the other hand, cannot rely on the "legs" of Russel Wilson. They will have to turn to Marshawn Lynch and the running game if they hope to gain any traction against the Pat's defense. In short, Seattle will be looking to control the ball for extended periods of time so that Brady can't work his voodoo on them.
One thing is for certain, no one knows exactly what is going to happen in the 2015 Super Bowl Stadium as evidenced by the continually changing line in Vegas that has the Seahawks favored for an hour or two, then changes to favor the Pats with the cycle repeating every few hours. Simply put, we are in for one helluva good game, folks!
